Constitution of Scoil N. Mhuire, Student Council
Mission:
Our student council is a representative structure for all students in our school. Through the student council, students will become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and its students. In keeping with ‘The National Children’s Strategy’, the children will be given a voice in matters that affect their lives and they will be provided with opportunities to participate in decision-making.
Aims:
- To give out the student body a ‘voice’
- To support students
- To participate in the consultative process
- To plan special events or programmes
- To improve the quality of experience for all children in the school
- To develop leadership skills in the students
- To positively influence decisions made in the school
Structure
- The Student Council will be representative of all students in the school.
- Only students can be elected to the Student Council.
- A teacher will work with the Student Council and form the link between the Student Council, the Staff, the Board of Management and the Parents’ Association.
- Elections will be held in September/October each year.
- Elections will be held by Secret Ballot.
- All classes will elect two representatives.
- The counting of votes will be carried out by the teachers of participating classes.
- Senior Pupils will be designated to support the Junior Infant, Senior Infant, First Class and Second Class.
- A pupil may sit on the student council for a maximum period of two terms, over his/her time in Scoil N. Mhuire
- Class meetings will take place the week prior to the council meeting.
- The student council shall have the right to co-opt a replacement in the event of a resignation from the council.
- Student Council Officers shall be as follows: Presidents, secretaries, treasurers (Liaison with Tír na nÓg )
- Meetings will be held fortnightly/monthly where possible.

Student Council '25/'26
Our student council for 2025-2026 has just been formed and they are bursting with ideas. We met and had our first meeting recently.
*Our first school event will be Jersey day where we are trying to gather funds for more playground equipment to enhance our play time on yard.
*Our next big event coming soon will be organising our Christmas shoe box appeal.
*We will also help organise Bì Cineálta week.
