World Book Day 🌍📚🫶🏻🤗

6th Mar 2026

We celebrated World Book Day on Friday March 6th here at Scoil N. Mhuire. Thank heavens we did go with Friday and not Thursday, as the weather was very kind to us. A massive thank you to all children, parents, families and staff who went above and beyond to make the day such a success. The students had an amazing day. The incredible creativity, up-cycling , re-using, borrowing and creativity that that was put into all the outstanding book character costumes was simply remarkable. The costumes truly brought the characters to life and created a brilliant buzz about the school, as the children discussed the books they were from and tried to guess others. It opened up a great conversation about all things reading. We had our first ever Book Character Parade around The Green, which was great fun and the local pre-schoolers came out to see us too! Some very kind 5th and 6th Class volunteers, led some reading activities at break times and we had an extended lunch both breaks to allow for more reading themed fun such as wordsearches, listening to the YOTO (audio books), big book read alouds, I Spy games and colouring sheets. The winners of all our competitions were then announced and prizes given. The afternoon was spent Buddy Reading with our classes. The Student Council did a remarkable job in organising such a great day and helping to select our wonderful winners. Thanks to everyone for your enthusiasm and remember “kids who read….succeed!” 🤗
