Wellbeing Discussion Event with the Department of Education and Youth
As part of the national review of wellbeing promotion in schools being led by the Department of Education and Youth, they are gathering the views of children and young people to ensure that their experiences and experiences help shape the new wellbeing review and policy.
Cloneygowan NS were invited to a primary student consultation event for children from 3rd to 6th class, which took place in the Tullamore Court Hotel on the 15th of May. Our Student Council/Amber Flag Committee represented Scoil N.Mhuire today at this discussion event. The students were polite, articulate, passionate and enthusiastic. We were so proud of them all 👏🏼💚
The purpose of the consultation was to hear directly from children about what supports their wellbeing in school, what can make school difficult at times, and what schools can do to better support children’s wellbeing and positive mental health🫶🏻.
The session was designed to be child-friendly, inclusive and engaging. It involved small group discussions, visual activities, post-its, drawing and other creative methods to help children share their views in a safe and comfortable way. The session was facilitated by psychologists and trained facilitators.
The students were delighted to be involved and were honoured to be asked to come along to share their ideas and opinions. They enjoyed sharing the bus ride with our Killeigh NS friends and the tasty food provided too. Here’s what some of them had to say:
💭 I liked getting to share our ideas and feelings.
💭 It was nice to see my friends from other schools and that I know from playing matches.
💭 The adults were nice and helpful.
💭 It was cool to hear what was going on in other schools and get ideas.
💭 I felt proud of our school and all the stuff we do for wellbeing. A lot of schools don’t have as much as we do and that made me feel ☺️ grateful.
💭 It was so much fun and the food was tasty. Thanks so much for taking us Ms. Condron.
