Discover Primary Science
This year we entered the ‘Award of Science & Maths Excellence’. We had to follow 5 steps.
Step 1 included activities from each of the four strand units in science: ‘Living Things, Environmental Awareness and care’, ‘Materials’ and ‘Energy and Force’.
For Step 2 we had to visit a DPSM centre or invite a Science Speaker. We did both. We went to Lullymore for a Science trip. We invited Eric O’Hanlon, Brendan Garry and Lief Barry to come and talk to us.
Step 3 we had to participate in a Science Event. We had a Science Day, we entered the Midland Science Competition and we got the Eureka each week.
Step 4 is a new step because we had to include maths. So we learned about the circle with light, the triangle, struts and shapes with buildings and graphs/data with Greenschools.
Step 5 we had to complete one activity related to Science week which was “Our Place in Space” this year.
